The R.E.A.L. Program

Rebuilding Education and Alternative Learning Programming

Education provides an opening for personal and cognitive growth with the opportunity to overcome many potential obstacles and will enhance future opportunities.

The REAL Program Goals of Education with Every Student

  1. To create successful learning environments.
  2. To provide a complete approach to learning that meets the individual needs of each youth.
  3. To provide programming that is based on strengths.
  4. To have a sense of community citizenship.
  5. To ensure that strategies for behaviour are therapeutic.
  6. To create a positive sense of self-esteem and self-efficacy.
  7. To establish pathways that encourages valued adult characteristics.
  8. To provide a safe environment to restructure and improve coping strategies for stressors.
  9. To reduce any differentness.  
Jen’s Place will provide a learning environment and learning
opportunities that will
meet each student’s individual
academic needs regardless of limitations.

The Jen’s Place REAL Program Can Provide Your Child With;

• An Individualized Educational Program

• A multidisciplinary support team that includes;

  • a Certified Child and Youth Worker
  • an Educational Consultant
  • a Social Worker
  • a Consulting Psychologist
  • the youth’s Parent/Guardian
• OSSD Credit Courses from the Independent Learning Center (ILC) designed by TV Ontario. (www.ilc.org)
• A maximum of eight students per class
• Individualized Behavioural Programming
• Co-operative Education/Field Placement Program to develop skills

The REAL Program Teaches More than Just Academics

Jen’s Place REAL Program is an Individualized program that consists of four (4) components:

Therapeutic Interventions

The REAL Program provides students with a safe and nurturing environment to explore his or her struggles regarding the social, emotional and environmental stressors they are experiencing.   

Life Skills

Life Skills will expose and teach students various skills that will assist in his or her positive and independent functioning as a valuable member of his or her own community.

Community Involvement

The REAL Program will assist students to develop a positive sense of community citizenship, to view the community as an area of support, and to change the stereotypes that these youth face.

Behaviour

The REAL Program staff is experienced in managing and planning for difficult behaviours that otherwise make school a negative experience.

Jen’s Place Alternative Day Program will service the following population:            

  1. Youth who have been suspended from school.            
  2. Youth who have been expelled from school.            
  3. Youth who emotionally cannot manage mainstream education and have been given permission by both their guardian and the local school board to participate in a homeschooling program. 

Program Location

The REAL Program takes place at 27 Victoria Street E, Suite #208, Alliston, Ontario.

Program Admissions

The REAL program is open to the residents at Jen's Place as well as community placement students.

We accept community placement students for a per diem rate (see below). It is the responsilbity of the parents/guardians of the students attending to make their own arrangements to get to and from the Real Program.

Fee Schedule

There are three options for payment. (Weekly, Monthly, Per Semester)

- Sliding Scale Available With Demonstrated Need -
Accept Cash, Cheque, Certified Cheque, Post Dated Cheques- No Credit Cards -
$15.00 Service Fee for Insufficient Funds
7 Day Notice is required to Discontinue Service

The Per Diem Rate Includes

  • All Support Services
  • All Consultations with Psychologist and Social Worker
  • All Course Materials
  • All Activity Materials

The Per Diem Rate Excludes

  • Any necessary formal educational assessments
  • Transportation costs
  • Lunches/Snacks
