Supervised Access

Supervised Access

WE ARE CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING NEW REFERRALS
We Provide a Flexible Alternative or Next Step to Supervised Access Visits between Caregivers and Children in their home or Community. Supervised Access is contact between children and his or her non-custodial parent with an autonomous third person known as the Supervisor or Facilitator. The facilitator will ensure that your child’s safety is paramount throughout the visit and provide the necessary interventions.

What is Supervised Access?

Supervised Access is contact between children and their non-custodial parents that takes place in the presence of an autonomous third person, known as the supervisor or the facilitator, who will ensure that the children remain safe throughout the visit and will intervene if necessary. Supervised access becomes an option when assurance is required so that the children can have safe, conflict-free access to parents with whom they do not reside.

Supervised contact may result from:
  • A formal or informal agreement between the relevant parties
  • An order of a court made with the consent of the parties
  • An order made following a determination by a Judge or Magistrate
  • The determination of a CAS in relation to their child in care.
Challenging situations often result from:
  • inflexible parental disputes over child care practices,
  • parental capacities or personal traits that are deemed by one of the parties to be undesirable
  • a danger to the children involved
  • children refusal to see a parent due to;
    • conflict of loyalty,
    • parental alienation
    • a negative reaction to the non-custodial parent
  • a parent may want to re-kindle a relationship with his/her children after a long absence
  • persistent violent confrontations between parents
Possible clients are children and:
  • their parents and siblings,
  • other people permitted by the parents, or by the relevant parent, by the court or child welfare body to visit the child, and
  • child welfare authorities in relation to children in their care as Wards
